Breaking: Air Peace Plane Skids Off Runway in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, “Kudos to the Pilot”

According to a NewsVista reporter, there was panic at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday, July 13, after an Air Peace flight (P47190) skidded off the runway shortly after landing.

The aircraft, which took off from Lagos, was involved in what aviation experts call a “runway excursion” — a situation where a plane veers off or overshoots the runway during take-off or landing.

Air Peace spokesperson Osifo-whiskey Efe confirmed the incident, assuring Nigerians that no lives were lost and all passengers were safely disembarked. The airline also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.

“We remain unwavering in our dedication to safe operations,” the official statement read.

While the incident caused anxiety among passengers and delayed other flights, aviation professionals insist such events, though frightening, are not uncommon.

According to Capt. Ibrahim Mshelia, a senior pilot and owner of West Link Airlines:

“Planes skidding off runways isn’t unusual. It happens globally. People only panic more in Nigeria because every incident becomes a big deal.”

Social Media Reactions:

  • @MascotOgbe: “Thank God for the safety of the passengers. A proper investigation must be done.”

  • @DanielRegha: “Zero casualties. Kudos to the pilot!”

  • @NwereonyePaul: “Na this just delay my flight this morning.”

Experts say common causes of such incidents include wet runways, bad weather, pilot misjudgment, or mechanical issues. Investigations are expected to determine the exact cause.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are thankful that disaster was averted — and once again reminded that while flying remains safe, every landing deserves prayers.
