Why I don’t like Premier League – Victor Boniface

Nigeria international and Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface has revealed that he once turned down a lucrative Premier League offer, citing his dislike for the league’s pressure-heavy environment.

Speaking during an appearance on The Culture League Podcast, the 24-year-old striker explained that despite being linked with several English clubs following a standout season in Belgium, he deliberately chose not to make the move.

“I don’t really like the Premier League — not like if I have the opportunity to go, I won’t take it,” Boniface said. “But if I am going to make that move, it has to be to a certain type of team.”

The Super Eagles forward emphasized that he prioritizes the style of football and the mental environment of a potential club over financial rewards or big-name appeal.

“Before I agree to a transfer or join a club, I always look at the type of football they play,” he continued.
“Will it suit me? Is it a team with too much pressure? Because some players can’t perform well under pressure.”

Boniface noted that his move to Bayer Leverkusen was carefully considered, not just for footballing development but also for peace of mind.

“Before I moved to Leverkusen, I had a great season in Belgium. There were offers from England, good money, but I just didn’t want to join that kind of team.”
