Breaking: Tinubu declares 7 days of national mourning to honour Buhari
According to a NewsVista report, President Bola Tinubu has declared a seven-day national mourning in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13.
The mourning period, which begins immediately, will also include a national public holiday on Tuesday, July 15 — the day scheduled for Buhari’s burial. This was confirmed in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Interior, with Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announcing the holiday on President Tinubu’s behalf.
The declaration has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some praised the move as a sign of national respect, others questioned why a public holiday was included, noting that such was not done for past presidents like Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Social media has since been flooded with condolences, tributes, and debates. “His memory will live on in the soul of the nation,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Let’s hope future leaders earn this level of honour.”
As Nigerians prepare to bid farewell to the former president, many are reflecting on his legacy, with prayers and sympathies pouring in for his family and supporters.
