Enugu Air Launches Cheaper Flights Without Its Own License — Here’s What You Need to Know

According to a NewsVista reporter, the newly launched Enugu Air has officially taken off — but not in the way many expected.

The state-owned airline, commissioned by Governor Peter Mbah, has not yet secured its full operating license (AOC). However, it’s been cleared by aviation authorities to begin flying — through a partnership with XEJET Airlines.

So, how is this possible?

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved a special arrangement that allows Enugu Air to operate domestic flights under XEJET’s certification — while it works on securing its own.

Travellers can now book tickets on Enugu Air’s website, but flights will be managed by XEJET behind the scenes.

“This boosts indigenous aviation and supports ease of business,” said NCAA’s Michael Achimugu.

Enugu Air Offers Big Discounts

Enugu Air is already shaking things up with up to 50% cheaper fares. A Lagos–Enugu flight that costs N200k+ on other airlines now goes for N110k on Enugu Air.

This move is expected to attract more domestic travellers — especially amid rising travel costs.

What’s Next?

  • Enugu Air will start with domestic routes, using three Embraer aircraft.

  • It’s also eyeing international destinations like the UK, China, and major African hubs once it fully secures its AOC.

  • Governor Mbah says this is part of a larger vision to make Enugu a transport and business hub in the South-East.

Final Word

While it’s early days, Enugu Air has already positioned itself as a game-changer in Nigeria’s airline space — combining public ownership, private expertise, and passenger-friendly pricing.

Just remember: for now, XEJET is doing the flying, but Enugu Air is claiming the spotlight.
