I Smashed My Phone So Kidnappers Wouldn’t Empty My Opay Account — Abuja Victim’s Harrowing Escape

A man in Abuja has shared his chilling near-death experience after falling into the hands of “one-chance” kidnappers, revealing how a split-second decision saved his life — and his entire house rent.

Speaking in an interview on The Lucky Udu Experience, the victim explained that he had unknowingly boarded a taxi operated by criminals. At first, he thought the man sitting beside the driver was the driver’s son — until he pulled out a knife.

“They Tried to Slit My Throat”

“He started stabbing me on the back,” the victim recalled. “He even tried to slit my throat, but I struggled with them.”

The fight turned desperate as the car sped along. In the chaos, his elbow smashed the side window glass, forcing the kidnappers to stop. That’s when they pushed him out and began beating him.

The Bold Move That Protected His Money

With his life and finances on the line, he made a risky decision.

“I smashed my phone on the ground so they wouldn’t get access to my Opay account. My whole house rent was inside it. I had to destroy it.”

The kidnappers, enraged by the move, attacked him more viciously. One struck him with a cutlass as he screamed for help.

A Rescue at the Last Moment

Just as it seemed the situation would end in tragedy, another vehicle stopped to drop a passenger nearby. Witnessing the attack, bystanders rushed to help. The kidnappers fled the scene before they could be caught.
