“Because of a Small Boy Like Me, They’re Beating People” – PDP Candidate Oluwole Cries Out Over Ogun By-Election Violence
The House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Remo Federal Constituency by-election, Bolarinwa Oluwole, has raised alarm over what he described as state-backed violence and intimidation allegedly carried out by thugs loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a report by The Sun Nigeria on Friday, August 16, 2025, Oluwole accused the APC of deploying armed thugs to attack PDP supporters across key polling units in Ogun State, particularly in PDP strongholds.
Speaking after casting his vote at Polling Unit 009, Ijagba Ward 7 in Sagamu, Oluwole recounted how he himself was chased away from his polling unit by political thugs.
In his words:
“Before I came here, you saw that there was no election. They were beating people who voted for PDP. APC thugs chased me away; they had to hide me in one corner. It’s a pity for the governor and all his thugs. Because of a small boy like me, they’re beating our people. They even shot one of our supporters in Ilara-Remo. They have really bastardised this exercise.”
The PDP candidate described the entire election as a “sham”, alleging that security operatives stood by and allowed the violence rather than protecting voters.
He further claimed that the exercise was marred by fraud, intimidation, and outright brutality, insisting that democracy in Ogun State was being “trampled upon in broad daylight.”
Meanwhile, reports of a PDP supporter being shot in Ilara-Remo, Ikenne LGA have sparked outrage, with residents calling for justice.
