Police Gun Down Armed Robber Operating From Refuse Dump in Lagos — Weapons Recovered
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a suspected armed robber identified simply as Blessing, who was neutralised during a shootout with operatives at Abule Egba.
According to reports, the raid happened in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025, after detectives received intelligence from a 43-year-old arrested gang member, Yakubu Adeyemi, who exposed the group’s hideout inside the Kantagua refuse dump.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the suspect opened fire immediately he sighted the operatives.
“On sighting the police, the suspected armed robber by name Blessing ‘m’ opened fire on the operatives,” Hundeyin stated.
A gun battle followed, leaving Blessing with multiple bullet wounds. He was rushed to Oke Odo General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
During the raid, officers recovered deadly weapons, including:

One AK-47 rifle loaded with 5 rounds,

A locally made single-barrel pistol,

Four live cartridges.
Hundeyin added that Blessing’s corpse has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members.
The police also warned that anyone caught harbouring or assisting armed criminals will face the full weight of the law.
