82yrs Old Grandfather & Son Poisoned To Relatives To Death Over Family Inheritance Has Been Arrested
Residents of Lemondokop Village in the Mopani District, Limpopo, are in shock after an elderly man and his son were arrested for allegedly poisoning a younger family member to death — all because of a bitter dispute over family inheritance.
According to police reports, the 82-year-old grandfather and his 38-year-old son were taken into custody by the Sekgosese Detectives Unit after investigators uncovered disturbing evidence linking them to the mysterious death of their 30-year-old relative on October 28.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the tragedy came to light when the victim suddenly collapsed and died at home under suspicious circumstances. A post-mortem later revealed toxic substances consistent with poisoning.
“Investigators followed community tip-offs that led to the arrest of the two suspects. Items believed to have been used to administer the poison were recovered during the operation,” Mashaba confirmed.
While the exact motive remains under investigation, police sources revealed that tensions over inheritance and family property may have triggered the deadly act.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, November 4, on charges of murder.
Reacting to the shocking incident, Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the act, describing it as a “deep betrayal of family trust.”
“This tragic case reminds us that even the warmest homes can hide cold intentions. We will ensure justice is served for the victim,” she said.
