A murder suspect has been shot dead after a confrontation with police in Buffelsdraai, Durban

According to our report, a dramatic police operation in Buffelsdraai, Durban, ended in gunfire this evening after a wanted murder suspect was shot dead during a confrontation with law enforcement. The operation, led by KwaZulu-Natal’s SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit, turned deadly as officers moved in to arrest the man linked to two murder cases dating back to 2022.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the suspect had been under surveillance for weeks. Police say he was considered armed, dangerous, and still active within the community — a priority target in a string of ongoing investigations.

According to preliminary details, the suspect opened fire first when officers attempted to arrest him, forcing police to shoot back in self-defence. He was fatally wounded on the spot. Paramedics tried to save him, but it was too late. Thankfully, no officers were injured during the shootout.

A firearm was recovered from the scene and will undergo ballistic testing to confirm if it was used in the previous murders or other violent crimes. Police have since opened an inquest docket and continue to investigate the full circumstances behind both the deadly exchange and the earlier killings.

Stay tuned for verified updates and police findings on this detailed developing report — as investigators work to close one of Durban’s most dangerous murder cases.
