RIP: Young Driver Of SA Artist Kharishma Dies At Just 24 In A Horrific Accident

Polokwane – The Limpopo music scene is in mourning after Vincent Mojakgomo Maphopha, 24, the driver and keyboardist for rising star Kharishma, died in a car accident last week. The tragic crash left fans, family, and fellow artists across South Africa deeply saddened.

The accident occurred in the early hours at the intersection of Grobler and Magazyn Streets in Polokwane. Maphopha was driving Kharishma and two other passengers when the vehicle left the road. He died instantly at the scene, while Kharishma, whose real name is Melita Mogale, remains in critical condition at Polokwane Hospital. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Maphopha was more than just a driver; he was a talented musician and a third-year BSc Plant Production student at the University of Limpopo. Balancing lectures with music gigs, he was known as a “jolly soul” who loved helping at home and playing the keyboard during rehearsals. His mother described him as a young man with big dreams for his studies, music, and family.

Tributes have poured in on social media under #RIPVincent, with fans sharing memories and photos of him. South African celebrities, including DJ Maphorisa and Sho Madjozi, joined in honoring his life, celebrating his dedication to both music and community.

A memorial service is scheduled for tonight at 6 pm at AFM Church in Motetema, with burial tomorrow at Mamokgalake Sports Ground in Groblersdal. The Limpopo Artists Movement invited the public to remember his “humble spirit.” Stories, photos, and reflections on Maphopha’s life are available on SouthReport.
