KwaZulu-Natal authorities have confirmed the death of Sphelele Zubane, a man believed to be involved in multiple politically motivated murders in the province. Investigators linked him to at least two high-profile political assassinations, including the killing of Zakhele Khuzwayo, an ANC councillor from Maphumulo, who was shot in September 2022. Zubane’s death occurred during a tactical raid aimed at intercepting his planned heist. According to law enforcement sources, a confrontation ensued when officers attempted to apprehend him, resulting in a shootout.
