African giants battle for champions league trophy

The stage is set for another thrilling chapter of African club football as the quarter-final fixtures of the CAF Champions League have been officially announced. The continent’s elite clubs will battle it out in March 2026 as they chase a place in the semi-finals of Africa’s most prestigious club competition.

One of the headline clashes will see Morocco’s RS Berkane face Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC. The first leg is scheduled for March 14, at 22:00 GMT, with the return leg set for March 22, in Sudan. Both sides have shown resilience throughout the competition, and this encounter promises a tactical battle between North African discipline and East African determination.

On the ball

Another blockbuster matchup will feature Tunisian powerhouse Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Egyptian champions Al Ahly FC. The first leg will be played on March 15, at 21:00 GMT in Tunis, before the decisive return leg in Cairo on March 21.  Al Ahly, widely regarded as Africa’s most successful club, will look to assert its continental dominance, but Espérance’s passionate home support and rich history in the competition make them formidable opponents.

Quater Final Fixtures

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns with Mali’s Stade Malien in another exciting quarter-final tie. The first leg is scheduled for March 13, at 18:00 GMT in South Africa. The return leg is taking place in Mali on March 22. Sundowns, known for their attractive possession-based football, will be favourites on paper while Stade Malien have a track record of upsetting bigger teams on the continental stage.

Meanwhile, Morocco’s military club AS FAR will take on the ambitious Egyptian side Pyramids FC. Their first encounter will be on March 13, at 22:00 GMT, with the second leg set for March 21 in Egypt.

Pyramids FC, a relatively new force in African football, will be eager to continue its rise, while AS FAR will rely on its experience and disciplined structure.

 

Across Africa, fans are already anticipating dramatic nights of football, packed stadiums, and fierce rivalries. From Casablanca to Cairo, Pretoria to Bamako, the quarter-finals promise to showcase the talent, passion, and competitive spirit that define African football.
