“Most of the money was going into fuel” — Man explains why power-dependent businesses struggle in Nigeria after opening ₦10m salon for wife

A man who recently set up a ₦10 million salon for his wife has shared his experience, highlighting the challenges small-scale businesses face due to power supply issues in Nigeria.

According to him, just three months after the business started, his wife began complaining that most of the income was being spent on fuel and staff salaries.

When he returned to assess the situation himself, he confirmed that the cost of fuel was taking a significant portion of the earnings.

To keep the business running, he said he eventually installed a solar power system.

He added that not every business owner can afford that option, noting that many small businesses that depend heavily on electricity may either shut down or continue operating under constant financial pressure.
